AI workflow cookbook for Cropped

Each workflow below has the words to ask your AI app and what Cropped does. Copy one, change the details, and paste it into Claude, Cursor or Codex once your app is connected to Cropped. For how to ask well, see Best practices.

Workflows marked Mac use window capture, text reading or finding buttons, which are Mac only for now. On Windows and Linux, ask your AI to take a screenshot instead, and you pick the area or window.

Some workflows capture a window without a click. They need Let AI apps capture without asking on in Preferences › App › AI tools. With it off, Cropped asks you to click the window instead. See Let your AI capture and point.

QA and issue screenshots

Make an issue screenshot in one sentence (Mac)

  1. Cropped captures the Safari window.
  2. Your AI reads the text to find the error and your email address.
  3. It boxes the error, hides the email, and saves the picture.
  4. It writes a summary, steps to reproduce, expected and actual behavior, with the saved file's path.

The Bug report screenshot prompt in your AI app's prompt menu does the same with one click.

Mark every problem on a screen

Your AI looks at the screenshot, places numbered badges on each problem, and writes a matching list. Numbers count up in the order it places them, so the list and the picture always match.

Check a fix

Your AI gets both pictures, compares them, and marks what's left. It's quickest when the window is the same size both times.

Show a problem as a GIF

  1. Your AI looks at stills across the recording to find the moment.
  2. It looks more closely at that part to pick exact times.
  3. Cropped makes a small looping GIF (320p, 10 frames a second) of just those seconds.

Ask for smooth (480p, 20 frames a second) when motion matters, or an MP4 for anything longer than a few seconds.

Send a recording to a developer

Your AI finds the times, then Cropped trims, mutes and shrinks it with a video preset. Name a preset like Discord · under 10 MB or Email · under 25 MB 720p when the file has a size limit.

Docs, tutorials and onboarding

Write an illustrated how-to (Mac)

  1. For each step, Cropped captures the Numbers window once you've moved to it.
  2. Your AI finds the button for that step and places a numbered badge on it.
  3. Each picture gets the same frame: padding, rounded corners and a soft shadow.
  4. Your AI writes the guide with each saved picture in place.

The Document a feature prompt starts this for you.

Number the steps on one screenshot

Numbers come in Solid, Ring and Soft. Your AI can pick any color, like violet, blue or your brand's hex color.

Point at one button (Mac)

Finding the button by its words means the arrow lands on it exactly.

Keep docs screenshots consistent

Then, for every new screenshot: “Run Docs frame on my last screenshot.” Every picture in your docs gets the same look. See the recipe library for more.

Retake every screenshot in a guide

In Claude Code, Cursor or Codex, your AI can read the guide, ask you to open each screen in turn, capture it and copy the saved picture over the old one, so the guide updates in place.

Release notes and launches

Make a release image

One request captures, marks, frames and makes a file for each size. The sizes come from Cropped's list of social media sizes.

Make a full social launch kit

Your AI makes one file per network, crops around the main subject, and shows you previews first. The Social launch kit prompt does the same.

Padding keeps the whole picture. Ask for crop instead when filling the shape matters more than showing everything.

Make a vertical demo for Reels, Shorts and TikTok

  1. Your AI looks at both recordings to find the parts.
  2. Cropped joins the title image and the two parts in order, crops to 9:16, and lays the music underneath.
  3. The music fades in and out, and gets quieter while a clip has sound.

Make a hero image with your own key

This uses your own OpenAI or Gemini key from Preferences › App › API keys, and the provider bills you for each image. Image models draw words poorly, so ask your AI to add titles afterwards as annotations.

Design and copy reviews

Find typos and cut-off text (Mac)

Reading the text gives your AI every word and where it is, so it can box each problem exactly.

Check a translation (Mac)

Your AI can ask to read specific languages, like German and English, for better results.

Review a design against a checklist

Compare two versions

Cropped doesn't place the two side by side, but your AI can look at both and mark the newer one.

Privacy and sharing

Redact before sharing (Mac)

The Redact before sharing prompt does the same and always asks before hiding anything.

Blur faces or customer names

Blur softens things while keeping the picture readable. For passwords and keys, ask to hide them instead: it's a solid block.

Share a screenshot in an AI chat or issue

The Agent / LLM preset (WebP, half size, at most 1280 wide) keeps text readable at a fraction of the size. The Shrink for an AI chat prompt does the same for screenshots, images and recordings.

Text from screenshots (Mac)

Copy text out of a screenshot

Turn a screenshot of a table into data

Your AI gets each line with its position, so it can rebuild rows and columns.

Find a word in a recording

Your AI looks at stills across the recording and reads them. It sees what's on screen, not what's said.

Batch jobs

These work best in AI apps that can see your files, like Claude Code, Cursor and Codex.

Shrink a folder of images

Make every size for a set of photos

Apply a recipe everywhere

Make GIFs from several recordings

Video edits

Cut out a part of a video

Cropped keeps what comes before and after that part and joins them.

Add a voiceover

To record a voiceover yourself, use the Studio's voiceover lane. An audio file from any other app or AI voice tool works too.

Make a looping clip for a website

Name the WebM silent loop 720p preset, or say what you need and your AI picks one.
